What are your weight-control goals?

I plan to continue to eat in a more healthy manner, which will in turn bring about a change in weight. I hope to have reached my goal weight by Christmas 2005.

What is your motivation for losing weight?

I was very tired of not being able to just buy clothing. Instead I have to search very carefully to find something in my size that does not look like it is for someone much older or that looks like a tent. I also came to the realisation that what I was doing was unbelievably unhealthy. And I was doing it to myself, voluntarily.

What is your weight-loss method?

I watch my calories and watch my fat intake and exercise each day.

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?

My only obstacle to losing weight has been finding a regular time to exercise. Instead of letting that beat me, I have actually decided that my exercise should be irregular. Sometimes it is lots, sometimes a little. Sometimes I walk, sometimes I mow, sometimes I weed, sometimes I cycle. Instead of letting irregularity beat me, I decided to use it to my advantage and thrive on different times and methods.

What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?

I told everyone I knew that I was on a healthy eating plan. Friends were very supportive and worked hard not to tempt me and to even accommodate my new healthier self. I also found that they made me accountable. Each week, they wanted to know if I had lost weight. What greater motivation did I need than six of my closest friends on my tail!?

How do you feel now that you're achieving success?

I am really pleased with myself. I actually feel very strong. Even when I eat something that is not healthy, I don't feel guilt like I would have before, I simply eat less of it and then jump straight back on the healthy eating plan. I once heard someone say that the only difference between a fat person and a thin person is that the thin person overeats and then goes back to the healthy eating again, while the fat person keeps on eating. I'm now learning to get back on the wagon.

How have the products or services offered by helped you to lose weight?

The Food and Exercise Diaries have been excellent. I am very truthful by nature, and I hate to have gaps in my diary (especially those ticks and crosses on the Today page), so I stay on the straight and narrow so my books 'look good'! The forums are also excellent. So supportive and helpful. The University has taught me new things, and I think it most worthwhile.
