What are your weight-control goals?

After eating and doing what I liked for a few years, I felt fat, unhealthy and very unfit. I was going to get fatter and fatter, so from then on I decided to lead a healthy, active life, and be a slim and fit person.

What is your motivation for losing weight?

I was scared that I would start having lots of health problems, such as heart disease and diabetes. I was tired of looking like a frump and just buying clothes because they happened to have that item in my size. I wanted to be healthy, fit, active and have a great body! I found going to the gym a couple of times a week wasn't working because I ate whatever I liked. I ate no fruit and veg and lots of high-fat junk food. I just thought that enough was enough!

What is your weight-loss method?

I use CalorieKing's on-line Food and Exercise Diary to record my exercise and what I eat. I try and stick to my calorie limit.

I have started cooking recently. I have been making many yummy meals that are low-calorie and healthy. I use Simply Too Good recipe books a lot, and I have also branched-out into other healthy cookbooks.

I am serious about the gym, and try to push myself all the time. I've started walking heaps too. I try to be as active as I can.

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?

My main obstacle is myself! My instinct is to be lazy, and to be scared of being tired or puffed-out! I'm also scared that if I "take a break" from exercise or eating healthy, I will go on a big downslide.

I have to realise it's okay to have a small treat every now and then. I need to record it in my CalorieKing Food and Exercise Diary. It's also okay to miss a walk now and then, but I need to take it into account. It's about finding a balance! I've found that it's hard eating out, as there are not many healthy choices on the average menu, and the portion sizes are often huge!

What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?

  • Eat healthy.
  • Don't deprive yourself of any particular food or food group.
  • Don't have food around that you can't eat, because you probably will eat it.
  • Just do it - no excuses, start this second, don't wait.
  • Be active in every way you can.
  • Learn to cook healthy meals.

How do you feel now that you're achieving success?

I feel great, although I still have a long way to go. I now know I can do it! I am doing it! I'm buying nicer clothes. I feel great when I get back from the gym or from a walk. I sleep better. I'm not so tired during the day. I love the graphs and charts on CalorieKing that show me my work is paying off!
