What are your weight-control goals?
I'd love to be 70 kilos again. The last time I weighed this was when I was 23. I remember feeling so good about myself and having loads of self confidence.
What is your motivation for losing weight?
When I weighed my heaviest (118 kilos) my mother was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I know it could be just a matter of time before I have this health problem too, so I'd like to prevent it as much as possible. Also, I've recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure, so it's really important that I lose weight to be healthy.
What is your weight-loss method?
I log everything in my CalorieKing Food and Exercise Diary. I think I'd be lost without it. Keeping a daily track of everything I eat and my exercise keeps me on the straight and narrow. This is a lifestyle change, so it's about my every day choices; I have learnt how to make the right choices.
I make sure I exercise every day. Since joining CK I found out about the Couch to 5K (C25K) running program. After nine weeks I could run for 30 minutes. I have found a new joy in exercise! I now run four times a week and walk the other three days. I've become much more active. To lose weight you've got to include both exercise and healthy eating in your lifestyle.

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
Once my mind is made up to do something there's no stopping me - I'm dedicated. My family is supportive, and they want me to succeed too.
I think in winter it's hard to remain motivated. When my alarm goes off in the morning, I know that if I don't go for my walk or run, I'll be disappointed in myself, so I drag myself outside. I'm always glad I made the effort.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
- Log everything you eat in the CalorieKing Food and Exercise Diary. Be honest.
- Exercise daily.
- Choose an exercise that fits-in with your lifestyle. It doesn't have to be the gym, but even walking everyday gets you outside in the fresh air and you become energised. If you don't enjoy what you're doing, you're less likely to succeed. Make sure you're having fun.
How do you feel now that you're achieving success?
I really enjoy being active. I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I'd become a "runner"! I mean, fat people don't run, do they? I do, and I love it!
More and more clothes fit and feel good on, and I can see the weight going down on the scales too. I'm achieving things, so that makes me want to keep going!
How have the products or services offered by CalorieKing.com.au helped you to lose weight?
At first I bought a CalorieKing Food and Exercise Diary from the newsagent. This was where I started recording what I was eating and how much I was exercising. Then I found the CalorieKing website, which I've continued to log my food and exercise in. It helps me see what I'm doing.
I completed the CK University. This helped me understand things about weight loss that I'd not thought of before.
I love the CalorieKing forums. I participate in discussions and I've made lots of friends who are trying to lose weight. Together we are fighting the battle. I know I'm not alone and there's help there when I need it.
