What are your weight-control goals?
I wanted to look good, be healthy and fit back into a size 10.
What is your motivation for losing weight?
I was simply not happy being overweight. I didn't like thinking of myself as obese, and photos horrified me. The clincher was having my photo published on the front page of our local paper (where I work), and knowing that this image had been circulated throughout the whole community. Aargh!
There were other reasons why I decided I wanted to lose weight: Someone I knew had lost 30kg, so I decided that I could do it too. Also, my mum had been diagnosed with Alzheimers, and dad is a walking medical encyclopaedia, and I knew if I was going to have any chance at a long and healthy life, then I had to get control over my lifestyle. Besides, I also needed to update my wardrobe. I was growing out of 18s and into 20s, and I decided that I'd rather be working towards size 10-12.
What is your weight-loss method?
I found exercise that I could do regularly, and I didn't hate - elliptical and rowing machines; I kept a food diary and restricted calories and saturated fats, which meant cutting back my sweet treats & dairy quite dramatically. But most importantly, I kept a positive attitude, set achievable goals, and rewarded myself when I reached them. I also found healthy foods that I enjoyed eating, planned ahead (mostly), and visualised how I would feel and look when I got to my ultimate goal. And I can't forget the support of the online community and the usefulness of my blog - great for self-analysis and congratulation!

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
Initially, my husband wasn't supportive at all. During one argument, he told me to 'have some chocolate and get over it'. Nice. Anyway, after he realised that my new lifestyle wasn't going to be a threat to him, he turned around.
Having never been a fan of exercise, that was a challenge I had to overcome. Big challenge, but I bought an elliptical trainer and could work out in privacy & at any time. I also had to learn to say 'NO!' to my impulsive desire to treat myself, which is a new skill that I struggle with daily. Fortunately, mostly I win!
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
Don't give up. Be realistic, and keep visualising where you will be, how you will feel, and what you'll be wearing. I also loved looking at all the Success Stories on the CalorieKing site. That kept me motivated long after the first rush had faded.
How do you feel now that you're achieving success?
10 years younger! I feel confident and in control. I only wish I had found CalorieKing sooner.
How have the products or services offered by CalorieKing.com.au helped you to lose weight?
CalorieKing is a great resource - and it's FREE! To me, CalorieKing has been a friend, a cheer squad, a diary, a planner, a teacher, & a community. It's available 24/7, and it's been so much easier, and more reliable, than using pen & paper to tally up calories. I must make special mention of the Success Stories - so inspiring.
