What were your weight-control goals?

Eight months after having my son, I finally gave up on breastfeeding as a means to getting my pre-baby body back and acknowledged that I was going to have to 'do something' or accept that I would never have a size 8/10 figure again.

What motivated you to lose weight?

I had many reasons that kept me going when it got tough. I had a new baby and I wanted him to have a fit, healthy and energetic mum. Also I had a wardrobe full of size 8/10 clothes. (I came very close to giving these clothes away but decided to hold onto them in case I had a daughter who might wear them some day.) Another reason, I had seen others' Success Stories and admired them so much. I desperately wanted to be able to conquer my weight gain and to be able to look at myself in the mirror and say 'I have succeeded at this!' And finally, at 160cm, any weight gain seems to be magnified.

What was your weight-loss method?

Initially I just got moving. I started walking and doing yoga for a few weeks without making any dietary changes. Then I started cutting out naughty foods, drinking more water and reducing my portion sizes (which were much, much too large). Then I discovered CalorieKing and became informed and inspired. I started to work out my daily calorie intake and experiment with fat/carb/protein ratios. I never did anything too drastic as I was (still am) breastfeeding.

What were some obstacles you encountered while losing weight?

I knew I had to exercise to be successful but with a young baby this seemed daunting. However, I had created a mental hurdle for myself and it proved less of a problem when I set my mind to it.

What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?

*Get moving
*Drink water
*Consider portion size
*Cut down (or cut out) naughty foods
*Substitute white for brown (e.g. bread, rice, flour etc)

How do you feel now that you've lost weight?

I feel 19 again! I am in better shape now than before I was pregnant. I'm fitting into clothes that I haven't worn since I was 21 (9 years ago). I have an abundance of energy and feel like I'm floating.

How have the products or services offered by helped you to lose weight?

The Food and Exercise Diary is terrific. Initially I had no idea how many calories I should be having in a day and with the help of CalorieKing I had a plan. I actually took pleasure in filling in my Diary and seeing how it all translated on the scales the following week. Having the breakdown of fat/carb/protein and nutrients at my fingertips helped - especially as I was breastfeeding and wanted to be sure I was getting enough calcium/protein etc. Without CalorieKing, my 13kg loss (and counting) would have taken years, if at all.

My new goals are to lose a few more kgs, to tone up and get cardiovascularly fit so that I can maintain my weight and vitality for life! I would also like to acknowledge Elaine, Su and Gemma who I met on the Find a Buddy forum. We’ve been emailing each other every day for nearly four months and their support and encouragement has made all the difference. I couldn’t have done it without you guys!!
