What are your weight-control goals?

My weight-loss goals are to reach a healthy BMI and to run a half-marathon in May 2008.

What is your motivation for losing weight?

My main motivation for losing weight is to be a good role model for my 2 year old daughter Chelsea-Lee. After I came home from hospital I let myself go. I didn't exercise and I ate erratically. My life had no structure. When I went back to work full-time in May 2006 I realised I had let myself go and I vowed to set things straight immediately.

What is your weight-loss method?

Initially, I was walking 3 times a week in two lots of 30 minutes. I monitored my daily calorie intake and realised how easy it was. I used to weigh all my foods to know what were good portion sizes and that meant I wasn’t guessing, I was dealing with real numbers. I am now running 3 times a week and I have joined a running club in Sydney called NRG. I started out not being able to run for more than a minute and now I can run 12 kms without any fuss!

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?

No obstacles whatsoever. Losing the weight has garnered me so much support, it's amazing. My family and co-workers encourage me every day and I gain so much confidence from the lovely comments I receive as I get smaller.

What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?

Never deny yourself! I still eat pizza and chips but I weigh my portions so I know the exact caloric value of that meal. It makes me accountable and it makes me feel I am not missing out. The main thing is to be consistent with everything you do. I am consistently running 3 times a week and I am making sure my portion sizes are adequate.

How do you feel now that you're achieving success?

I feel strong and I feel motivated. I love shopping for new clothes and, to try to keep costs down, I shop at St Vinnies. I have found some lovely items and I am not ashamed to tell people how much my jeans cost - $6!!! What a bargain!!! I figure I shouldn't spend too much money on clothes because I still want to lose 12 kilos.

How have the products or services offered by helped you to lose weight?

I have used the online food diary for over six months and found it invaluable. I love inputting all my food and seeing what my net calories for the day are. I especially love seeing a negative figure. That has really helped with my weight loss figures to date. I also love reading people's blogs. It's good to hear of people's successes and struggles. I often think I should blog myself but I'm too lazy, so I'll continue to read other people's in the meantime!
