What were your weight-control goals?
I'd always been a big girl; even as a child I was chubby. By my high school graduation I had hit my heaviest weight: 104kgs. I was very depressed and moody. I was also in terrible pain which resulted in me having my gall bladder removed.
Fast forward to December 2005, I had noticed I'd started to grow a few little hairs on my chin, nothing I was too concerned about at first. The hair continued to grow, as did my mood swings. I knew it wasn't normal for someone my age to experience these symptoms so I decided to see my GP in early 2006, hoping he could give me a pill to cure it all. Alas, what followed was a merry-go-round of doctors' appointments as they tried to determine once and for all what was wrong. Finally, an endocrinologist confirmed that I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which is a common hormonal condition in women, affecting between 5 to 10% of the population. The endocrinologist said that it could be treated with diet and medication. This was good news but then, after researching PCOS on the net, I found out that PCOS could cause infertility. That news frightened me as I had always wanted to start a family some day.
What motivated you to lose weight?
With weight loss, fertility can be boosted. I became determined and researched diets for PCOS women as I had also discovered this is why I put weight on so easily. I sought answers to combat my weight but I did not know where to begin, then I found CalorieKing.com.au. It was my lifesaver!
What was your weight-loss method?
* I started a calorie-counting diet using CalorieKing's Nutrition and Exercise Manager software.
* I controlled my calorie, carb and fat intake.
* I started to eat whole grains and fresh foods.
* I started exercising everyday for at least half an hour.
Much to my surprise, after doing the above for a while, the weight started melting away.

What were some obstacles you encountered while losing weight?
During my teenage years I had grown and grown to the point that I had accepted I was who I was and that my body did not co-operate with me. I'd always put weight on very easily. I even saw my own GP about it a few times. Each time he would frown and look at me then tell me to just exercise and stop eating junk. Not particularly helpful!
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
Don't give up! It's worth the effort. Stick to your daily calorie allowance and make sure you get some exercise every day.
How do you feel now that you've lost weight?
I am now 61kg and a very happy size 10, the smallest I have ever been in my adult life. I can now fit into all the clothes I've always dreamed about!
I have also noticed a difference in the way people treat me. People, especially shop assistants, are more open to looking me in the face and having a conversation with me. Before I lost the weight, sometimes when I walked into a clothing store the assistant would either ignore me or tell me they didn't have my size there.
