What are your weight-control goals?

To exercise on five out of seven days. To keep to an average of 1350-1550 calories per day, for six out of seven days. To learn to like myself and remind myself "I am so hot right now!"

What is your motivation for losing weight?

The first thing people used to see was my size. I don't want to be the fat girl anymore. I want people to see me as intelligent. I want people to see me for my abilities and talents. And as stupid as this sounds, I want to be hot - I want tradies to whistle when I walk past a building site, I want truckies to blow their horns when they drive past.

What is your weight-loss method?

Use CalorieKing to record EVERYTHING - even when you are naughty. You can plot your mood foods (comfort foods) or peak periods when you are likely to fall off the wagon - PMS, stress at month end at work, stress when family visits. That way, when it's coming up to a stressful time, you can stock up the fridge with lots and lots of veggies and fruit, and make sure the pantry is bare of anything that you want to avoid. My Ipod was a great help. Walk, walk and walk, no matter what - even if you don't feel well, it's 5 degrees, and raining - rug up, grab a brolly and walk....

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?

My obstacles included a little sabotage from my best friend in the form of "pizza-and-chips-and-chocolate-DVD-wine" visits every Friday night. I swapped her over to thin veggie pizza, no chips, no lollies, fruit/vodka lime and soda and DVD's on a Friday night instead. My husband after every 5kg weight loss wanted to celebrate and reward me with food treats, such as ice cream with topping, chocolate, etc. I gave him a much better alternative. For every 5 kg I lost, I will go and buy some sexier Pj's - it worked! The ice cream and lollies stopped, and now he doesn't mind if I spend $250 on lingerie. He was also super good and bought me my "in the 80's reward" Tiffany necklace and bracelet! I think he is inspired to lose some weight now too.

What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?

No excuses! ALWAYS make time for exercise. I work a 45 hour week, have 3 kids, and do part-time uni - get off your butt and find the time. Even if you have to exercise in the freezing cold, dark, 5am winter mornings (like I have), you can fit it in! Find incremental exercise. On weekends, garden, walk to do the grocery shopping and carry all the bags home, or walk to your local shopping centre (even if it is 8-10 kms away and then catch the bus/taxi home). Find ways to exercise - run out of milk in the middle of cooking? Grab your bike and ride to the shops.

How do you feel now that you're achieving success?

Happy, but weird. My head is taking some time to catch up to my butt! I still go shopping in the big sections, or Big City Chic, or 1626, but guess what? I don't fit into most of it! Sometimes when I catch sight of my reflection out and about, I get excited by the thin girl I see looking back. I now have three bikinis and I wore them all over my Christmas holiday in Bali. For the first time since I was about 13, I have a brown belly and lower back. I know it's still a long journey (I have another 15 kg to go) but I am really, really excited about what I have achieved (and how good it feels) and I know that this time next year, I will be here typing out a full success story. In the past 7 months, I have gone from a size 22 to a size 14-16. That feels awesome.
