What are your weight-control goals?

To reach my goal weight and to maintain it. I want to be able to use all that I have learnt on this journey on a day-to-day basis so that my life isn't a constant diet any more.

What is your motivation for losing weight?

I want to be healthy, happy and active. I don't want to be that jealous person who envies all the people who run along a beach or go for a jog or a long bike ride. I want to be that person for as long as my life is. I want to be there for my kids and their kids. I want to be a fun mum, a mum who is cool and fun to hang out with, instead of a mum that is too fat and lazy to go and have fun with her kids.

What is your weight-loss method?

At first I tried every fad diet there was, then mum handed me my first CalorieKing Calorie, Fat and Carbohydrate Counter book. I read it front to back about a thousand times before I went shopping. But I made shopping lists before I entered the supermarket and would make sure I had eaten a meal so that I wasn't hungry and tempted to buy the wrong foods while I shopped. So now I count calories and fat like it's going out of fashion! Ask my family and they will tell you that I can name so many food items and their calorie and fat counts that I am now my own walking calorie book. I also swear by the CalorieKing Nutrition and Exercise Manager software for my computer. Every night, before bed, I sit down at my computer and plan my meals for the next day. It's the best program I have seen and I tell anyone who wants to listen.

What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?

It was very hard to stick to my planned meals when close family members would still go and eat their doughnuts, their hot chips and other fatty, calorie-laden foods. I tried to keep my willpower and strength to say "NO" to these foods and mean it instead of saying "Okay I will just eat this now and then start the diet again tomorrow". Sometimes the "tomorrow" word was used too often in my weight-control journey. That was my biggest hurdle, and then family was my second obstacle.

What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?

Everyday I tell myself that this is the only time that I get to live this day. You never get to go over that day again and change or adjust it to the way you would have liked it to be. So you need to make the right decisions throughout the day. It's also important to take time for yourself to look at how you are living your days, what you think may make your life better and how can you improve on it. When I am laying on the lounge watching TV, not because I want to but because I am bored, I give myself a swift kick in the bum now and hop on my bike and go to the gym. Once I get home I feel so empowered and that feeling lasts for the rest of the day. I feel like I did something for myself!

How do you feel now that you're achieving success?

I am so happy that I can go into a shop and buy a size 12 or 14 and know that it is going to fit me. If I'm lucky, I get to bring back the size 14 item and say "Sorry, I have to exchange this for a size 12, the 14 is too big". That is one of my biggest rushes! I am looking forward to reaching my goal weight.

If it wasn't for a really bad photo of me (I thought at first it was someone else in the photo) and my mum handing me a copy of my first ever CalorieKing Calorie, Fat and Carbohydrate Counter book, I wouldn't be here now. After buying the 2005 edition I saw the advertisement for the CalorieKing Nutrition and Exercise Manager, so I thought I would take a look and also found the website. I now live on CalorieKing.com.au and enjoy reading people's ideas, Success Stories, recipes, it's just fantastic. I can honestly say it's the easiest and best program I have ever used and I'm really grateful and happy for that!
