Pears poached in a cinnamon sauce.

Ingredients:

2 firm ripe pears, 150g each

2 Tbsp maple syrup

1 cup water

1 cinnamon stick

1 Tbsp lemon juice

2 tsp cornflour

1 Tbsp water, extra


Directions:

Peel pears; keeping the stalk intact.

Combine syrup, water and cinnamon stick in a saucepan over medium heat until simmering; add pears. Cook for approximately 15 minutes or until pears are soft when poked with a sharp knife.

Place pears onto serving dishes. Remove cinnamon stick from sauce and discard.

Bring sauce to the boil; add lemon juice. Combine corn flour with extra water and stir into sauce until thick.

Spoon over pears. Serve with low-fat yogurt or cream.

Variations:

Honey or golden syrup can be used instead of maple syrup.
