Hello fellow ckers,

I have found myself slipping back into my old habits and want some help. What are some of the things that help you focus and stay on track when things get tough.

Any and all suggestions welcome...

Planning... I schedule my weekly exercise plus plan all my meals and snacks in advance for the following day. Helps to keep me focussed.

I have a 'life' board in a place where I see it every time I walk down the hallway. Reminds me of why I'm doing this.

What kind of things do you have on your life board.. short term goals, dreams and hopes for the future?? I have been thinking about making a life board myself. I might get a start on it tomorrow. Thanks for that BJ

2 things:

Just do it: Plan what you need to do and just do it! After a little while it just becomes habit

Same goes for habits you want to reduce. When you crave chocolate or something you probably shouldnt have, put it off for 24 hrs. By the time that 24 hrs is up, you most likely will have forgotten about it or dont really want it anymore! And then the more you resist temptation, the better you get into the habit of just not eating junk!

What has finally worked for me is that i decided AT LAST that if I actually wanted to lose weight then I could BUT it is 100% my responsibility. I can't blame anyone or anything else!!
CK is keeping me on track as it is so easy to see cals etc.
I definately second the planning ahead. Buy the right stuff at the shops, if you have good choices available then that's what you eat! Plan your day ahead on CK and pack your lunch/snacks everything!!
GOOD LUCK!!

One of the things I do is to try on some of my clothes (current ones that fit) to see if I'm making progress.
I also have a pair of jeans from June 2010 that I hang up in my cupboard at the front as a constant reminder. From time to time I put them on to see how big I once was.

Another thing is I have been keeping a 'photo journal' of my progress, which I look at every week to help stay on track.

you can see here
https://picasaweb.google.com/rachelfrancoise/WeightLoss20102011?authkey=Gv1sRgCI_i5KmR2ZvyswE&feat=directlink

Also, I keep my calorie counter and diary on the kitchen bench as a constant reminder that I have to track my calories.

Another thing I do to keep motivated is to find success stories on the internet - especially the ones with before and after photos.

Seeing somebody I know, that has lost a lot of weight and how radiant they look, gives me more motivation to try harder.

I find planning helps keep me on track too. Like cooking up a weeks worth of healthy, tasty dinners on Sunday when I have the time. Then when I get home late during the week and am tired and can't be bothered, my food is already taken care of and I just have to reheat. And also taking it slow and remembering this is about long term change. So I might not lose every week, but as long as I keep making mostly healthy choices, the trend is down, even if it takes a bit longer.

Planning is the only thing that helps me get on track if I've been a bit off. I sit down and work out what I have in the cupboard that I feel like eating and stick it all in my diary a day in advance, just to make sure I have enough calories left for dinner (it's the only meal I don't plan for).

I agree with many of the others here. Planning is key. I usually buy watermelon, half a pineapple and half a rockmelon in the shopping, chop them all up and put them into containers in the fridge. Then if I am tempted for a snack during the week I head for the fruit not the chocolate.

Just remember, not every week will be a good one, but if you have the power and persistence to stick at it and continue your good eating and exercise the positive results will eventually follow. If you find yourself at plateau. Stop, reassess your goals and then move forward. There's no point trying the same thing for more than 4 weeks if it's clearly not working. Change your eating or the amount of cals you eat, then your gym routine. Even the simple things can make a difference.

if you cut your goals down into manageable chunks (2-4kg at a time) and then aim for that, perhaps giving yourself a non-food related reward when you reach that goal, it can spur you on.

Drink plenty of water though and stay positive! You'll get there.

I take my clothes off and stand in front of the mirror and have a long, hard look at my body.

That normally does the trick. =D

I can't seem to stay away from people's blogs for motivation.
Mostly triathletes for me, but if you're into that sort of stuff, have a look around, blogs on everything.
Seeing what some of those normal people do things I've always wanted to do...

Mass amounts of motivation.

For my life board I got a cheap cork board from a $2 shop (cost about $5 lol). You need things that mean something to you. I have mine in the hall way so I pass it a zillion times a day.

On it I have a backing sheet with my specific long term goals not only focused on weight but also health, budget, clothing size and housework!! It's headed THE AMAZING BRENDA :devil7:

I've pinned on my short term goals (interim weight, exercise goals, clean kitchen cupboards etc). There's photo's - fat & skinny me, a pic of a healthy heart and a fatty heart with a big red line through it.

Pieces of string. My and hubby's waist measurement. I've marked our 'goal' and coloured the difference in red nikko (which I then black out as we reduce the length).

My wedding rings. I haven't been able to wear them for a few years. Luggage tags (long story but they indicate the reason I decided it was time to get my a* in to gear again).

I also have a tear off strip with strips in 500g increments that I rip off with great ceremony !!!

Let me know how you go/

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to reach out and help me.

Planning seems to be the general theme. I do try and plan and have healthy food around me. I have stopped tracking my food so as of today I will start logging in my calories. Thanks guys

Taking your clothes off and having a long hard look really does work.. When I started I actually took a photo of myself naked front and back using my timer on my camera and printed it on my home computer. To see myself from the back was a huge shock. Maybe I will take another photo and see if I can see the 5.4 kilo's. Thanks Solace

I sat down in front of the computer lastnight a googled different images for my life board. I have put it up in my bathroom so it is the first thing I see in the morning. I will add to it as I go along. Thanks BJ

Thanks heaps everyone I will not give up on myself, I CAN DO IT!
