1. Shouting

This is the one basic rule that most net users agree on:
a. posting all in CAPS is shouting
b. posting an entire post in bold is shouting
c. posting in Bold and CAPS is shouting even louder.

So consider whether you really want to be seen as shouting before formatting your post that way. A little fun shouting will be taken in good humour especially if followed by a smiley.

--> Netiquette aside it is very very difficult to read long posts which are all in capitals or all in bold. The odd heading, word or phrase is bold or underline is cool for emphasis, and more effective than an entire post in bold or caps.

2. Double Posting

Before creating a new post do a quick search of the forums (over at least the last 30 days, preferably longer) to see whether your question has already been posted and answered recently.

Doing a simple check means your likely to get a better response (people get tired of answering same old questions) and means people arent offering the same advice in more than one place to more than one person.

When you reply to an older thread it will be bumped up the list, so people will see it.

3. Tone

It is very difficult to decypher tone in a BB mesg or email, so if in doubt as to how your post will be taken consider following with an appropriate smiley or typing (joke) afterwards, or prefacing with a description such as "in my best whatever voice". Of course sometimes its bleedingly obvious something is a joke.

4. Newbies

The best place to look for how do I FAQs on the mesg boards is the newbie guide thread so kindly created by Jini here is the link:

http://www.calorieking.com.au/community/forums/Newbies/The-Newbie-Guide_dGhyZWFkX2lkPTY0NTc5.html

Cut and paste the above link into a new browser window, to read the wealthy of tips and hints.

5. Audience

Remember although you cant always put a face to the people on the boards they are real people. So think about how you respond to a post, would you say the same thing irl (in real life)? Dont sensor what you want to say, just choose your words carefully.

But importantly do stand up for yourself, its important not to be intimidated by other members, you will usually find at least one supportive member no matter how radical your view.
