Just So Exciting

Due to the great genetic pool I came from I was blessed with having all my perfect teeth removed last year (genetic condition of loss of jaw bone) and now have to wear full plates.

Today was my weigh in day and discovered I have reached my first goal of losing 20kg. I was just so excited and full of pride I quickly got ready for the day then rushed off out the door to go to town. I got in to town and couldn't wipe the smile off my face, then realized I had forgotten my teeth. Normally this would of resulted in me being in tears as I am so embarrassed to be seen like that, but not today.

I live in a rural area and it takes 50 minutes to get in to town so it is not like I can just go back home and get them. Achieving my goal just made me laugh and shrug it off and continue with all I had to do for the day.

Thank you Cyclonet & Kelski!

It is unlike me to not be shattered by it and even more unlike me to tell others about it. I usually prefer to hide in the shadows and keeps thoughts and experiences to myself.

I don't know what it is, but my thinking and approach to things has really changed and the only thing I can put it down to is; my lifestyle change is changing more than my physical well-being, it is changing my mindset on all different levels as well, and its all for the better.

Good for you! It's something you will never forget I bet and you have an awesome story to go with it!

It's not just your mindset, it's your self belief about what makes you worthwhile in life that would be changing too I would think. Being proactive and achieving goals is probably making you feel like you are walking taller.

MillyJayne, yes that is what it is like.

And yes it is a sure way to remember reaching the first goal. I actually celebrated by buying a 10kg weight plate for my weight bench today (slowly building on exercise equipment for myself) and when I picked it up I was...omg 2.5 months ago I was carrying around 2 of these :o

Oooh, I love getting new weight plates! But isn't it a shock. I picked up some new 10 kg ones myself a month or so back and it's a bit weird to think of carrying it around as actual weight when you realise how much it drags on you to carry it to the car. That could be a good reminder for me when I feel like something I probably shouldn't be eating - can carry a small weight plate around the house for ten minutes and then see if I feel like that extra serving!

Congratulations on the weight loss! And in a fantastic time too. You must be feeling great!

I have lost around 60kg, yet my mind boggles at the fact that I can't yet lift 60kg, even though I carried it around every day! But I am determined to do it.

My weigh-in for that week was not as bad as I expected. I lost 0.5kg, it is not a great deal but I was still happy with it.

So it is all good! :thumbu2:

Why were you expecting it to be bad? Are you having some problems? Anything anyone here might be able to help you with?

What about this past week? How has that been for you?

I just made some basic mistakes by 'being too tired to measure' and not finishing eating when I was full. I over-ate one night and it is the first time I had over eaten since implementing my changes and I just felt awful, mentally and physically. I felt so sick from eating too much and got a tremendous attack of the guilts, to the point that I thought my week was doomed haha

The weigh-in on the 23/4 was a loss of 1.9kg and the 30/4 was 1.3kg. So things are still progressing well.

That is fantastic that you are still achieving consistently great weight losses each week. It is also great that you got over your first mishap relatively unscathed. :smile1:

As we are all human, remember for next time, that one bad mistake should not result in one bad week.

When I have had a similar experience to what you have described, I take the standpoint that I have punished myself enough. I must stop the punishment and start rewarding myself, in terms of nourishing food and exercise to make up for the lapse. Not punish myself further. Do you think that you could try to adopt this mindset and see if it works for you?

Yes, I soon realised not worth beating myself up too much over it and I did not then think...'well that's it, I've done it now I may as well keep over indulging'. Instead I used it as a bit of a reality check and to remind me of all the good I have done for myself and my body, physically and mentally, and where I want to be in a year or two.

The physical affect it had on my body is what shocked me the most. In the past, over eating was such a common thing that it was just like...ok, so I am uncomfortable for half hour or so, then I will be over it, no big deal. But this time I felt so bloated and uncomfortable for the rest of the night, and even a little the next morning. I think my body was in shock and rather pissed off at me for what I un-intentionally did to it.

That is what I like though and certainly try to use it to my advantage, that you end up with that knowledge, in the back of your head, that if you eat "this", then your body will make you pay for it. And I don't just mean in the slowing up of our weight loss but of the more immediate physical result that we experience if we "dare" to eat more than we should or something that we haven't for awhile, etc.

My body is all for this more healthier lifestyle. It is reaping the rewards. It never wants to go back to the way it was. My brain, on the other hand, is still on the lookout for just about any short term "thrill" that it thinks it can get away with. :smile1: Luckily for me, I am aware of it's shortcomings.
