Hello :)

I am starting fresh for the new year and I'm setting myself a 6kg in 6week goal in time for my 29th Birthday.
But that's just the beginning of this journey. I have to learn to be healthy for rest of my life.
Nice to meet you all :)

Welcome

Are you being realistic in your goal?

At your current weight, if you eat net cals of 1200 per day you will still only lose roughly 4.5kg in 8 weeks.

At a weight of 72.9kg and a height of 156cm I know CK has set your weight loss cals quite a bit higher than 1200, I understand you want to challenge yourself with this goal but it simply would not be healthy for you to lose 6kg in 6 weeks, you really need to ask yourself if it's worth it to meet your goal if it means starving yourself to get there.

I don't know what CK has set for you in terms of your weight loss cals but I think a more realistic goal would be around a 3kg loss over the 6 weeks. That would still bring you under 70kg for your birthday and would be much healthier.

Hi Ranger

Thank you for your post.
CK has set me 1310cals per day.
I guess I could be happy with 3kgs, even though I'd love 6!
I thought I could lose 1kg per week (isnt it ok to lose .5 to 1kg per week?) but I didn't think about it mathematically.

I'm sure I will at least 'feel' healthier in 6 weeks time, here's to being under 70 :)

No problems. I always set unattainable goals (with most things not just weight loss) and it never ends well.

They say "healthy" weight loss is 500g-1kg per week, it doesn't mean that's attainable for everyone though. Usually only people with alot to lose can lose 1kg per week.

If you go to "Use Our Interactive Tools" under the Recipes, Articles & More option, there's a tool at the bottom called Weight Loss or something like that, that's how I worked out how much you could lose at your current weight.

I recommend you stick with the 1310 net cals per day and just take whatever loss you get, that way you know you'll be fueling your body as it needs to be fueled and whatever you lose will be fat rather than muscle or water, and subsequently should be a healthy loss.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great. :)

Like you Eleven11, i have often dreamed of losing 1kg a week for X number of weeks.

i have found it is not that simple.

How I manage the disappointment of not losing as much weight as I would like to lose, or imagine I could lose in a specific time, is to now be very specific about my food and exercise regime, and I find that a weight loss follows - but not a steady amount per week.

This I how I over-ride the "I must lose 1kg per week" thinking ---------

**I plan my food and make sure I am eating all my allotted calories plus all or some of my exercise calories.

**I schedule 30 minutes a day for exercise

**I stick to the percentages recommended by CK for fat, carbs and protein

**I drink at least 6 cups of fluid per day (includes 3 water and 3 teas)

**I am a "scales" person and must weigh every day, however I also realise the scales don't always indicate the work I am doing with weight loss, so I ignore the figure I see unless I know I have over-indulged.

Thanks Ranger, just checked out the online tool. Yep .45kg per week!

Dansy303 you sound like you have a great plan. Constancy really is the key with any achievement.
This is something that I do well for 2 weeks or so and then get bored with the routine. I have to find a way to beat that.

One thing I can't get my head around -
If I eat 1310cal per day and burn off 500cal (a usual for me in a workout) I am essentially putting 810cal in my body for the day. That means I will lose .95kg per week. Unless I eat back the additional 500cal but then aren't I undoing all my hard work?
Must I eat back those 500cal?

Eleven11 - when CK sets your calories they are usually a deficit of 500 calories per day for what you need to lose weight.

When you exercise, there is a further deficit due to the extra energy you burn. So it is OK to eat more to use up the extra calories you burn through exercise.

In addition exercising will improve your metabolic rate due to increased muscle mass.

People who don't eat enough just shoot themselves in the foot as their metabolism will slow down if they do not eat enough food.

Listen to Ranger - she knows what she is talking about.

I think it is fine to aim for that 1kg per week, as long as you don't get disappointed if your result is half of that (which is healthy).

Good luck to you! I am sure you will be fine and will look great for your birthday (I am almost the same as you, would love to lose about 4-5kgs by my 28th birthday in March!)

Also you can do all the math you want till the cows come home, our bodies are complex machines and that is the point they are complex.

Everyone is a little different in how they respond, and sometimes there is no explanation for why the scales go up when you've done everything "right". Scale weight is not always indicative of everything going on inside the body so make sure you measure yourself as well.

Focus on feeling better and getting healthy rather than a number on the scales (which should only be used as a guide not gospel).

Good luck!
