Losing weight for my wedding :)

Hi everyone,

I have joined up again because I loved all the support I got here last year when I was losing weight (I can't remember my old details though).

My partner and I are getting married next year in February, and I have already found my absolute dream wedding dress at a bargain price, so I had to buy it! The only problem is, it is a size 12, but has a corset back so could go up to a small 16. I am now roughly an 18-20.

I have just over 8 months to lose enough weight to get into my dress, and I think the calculation works out to be just over 1kg a week (though I would love a bit more!!)

A year ago I was 135kg (the day before my youngest was born!) and I am now roughly 110, a little bit under. My ultimate goal is 59kg and to fit my wedding dress I would need to be anywhere between 59-69ish.

I love running, I can comfortably (when my knee doesn't hurt) run 5km at a time at a slow jog, and I try to do this every second day, with a walking day in between, and a rest day on the weekend. I also have some 6kg handweights which I lift every second night.

The only thing I need to work on to succeed is my emotional eating, so with using the site to log everything I eat and drink, and my exercise, I believe I will fit into my dress :)

I'm actually excited to be back here!!

Tomorrow (or tonight should I say!) it begins!

Good luck! If you put your mind to it and set a goal you can achieve a lot within your timeframe

What works for me is to plan ahead for food and exercise and stick to it. Stick to your calorie king allowance, exercise every day (even if you just go for a walk on some days), and eat small regular meals with lots of fresh fruit and veg

Looking forward to hearing of your success in the coming weeks :)

Mel :-)

Aww thank you :)

I have a LOT of negative feedback on my friends and family about it, which is awful. I should never have told them in the first place really! So to hear a positive one from you is just lovely :)
One family member also told me that I should never go lower than a size 14 as I would look ill.. Which was not met with a welcome reply. I think a lot of this is the fact that they have never seen me at less than a 16 too.

I also have a 10km road race coming up in a few months I need to start training for, so that will help!!

Thank you again!

Pfft, how would they know? Do what's good for you and what you want!

Good luck training for the 10km race...sounds like you've got everything sorted out! With the eating, I find the best way is to simply not have it in the house. Especially with the colder months coming (when you're less likely to duck out of the house quickly to the shops or the nearby convenience store!), if you haven't got the snacks...you can't eat them!

Replacing snacks with healthier options can work as well. At night, to calm any sweet craving I may have after dinner, I have a Weight Watchers treat (like their brownies or chocolate rolls) - just the one! Brushing my teeth (or chewing gum if I'm not at home) helps curb the cravings as well :) But you've been here before, you'll know the tricks! It's just getting a good routine down, getting good habits and seeing those results!

Good luck :)

Good luck on your journey, when you have the right attitude just about anything is possible. Sounds like you have a great plan with running and best of luck with your event coming up. Make sure you use the diary to record you food and it will help you get a good eating plan sorted out.

Good luck with your journey. You have a great attitude already and that will help you achieve your weight loss goal. I too have a problem with snacking. I've just recently started liking nuts and seeds so give them a go.

And congrats on losing 25kgs so far. That's a fantastic loss already.

You can do it! Keep it up and youll get there.

I personally didnt. I brought my dress a year in advance 1 size down (it was a corset back also) with all intentions of losing just that little bit. In a year. I had heaps of time.

It creeps up on you. I didnt lose a gram. I gained kgs instead. I managed to still wear my dress with alot of stress, dramatic calls to my dress maker etc.

But, I believe you can do it... Youll look gorgeous in your wedding dress!

May I just suggest that you also set weight goals for your one month anniversary, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years...

have your fantabulous day and then the rest of your life.

You deserve it and hey, if people are worried about you going too low there is a long way between here and there, you can deal with them when the time comes. It will help to keep them off your back if you do it right, eat lots of good fuel, exercise sensibly and look healthier, not just thinner.

Thank you everyone!

Good idea Thyla!!! I didn't think to do goals on anniversaries, but it makes perfect sense!

I could also aim to fit into the same dress each anniversary too!

I should be anywhere from 52-63kg for my height, so I picked 59kg as it just seems perfect! I want to run a marathon before I'm 30, and would love to be a long distance runner for the rest of my life, so having a low-ish weight would help that!

Thank you everyone for being so positive :) I really appreciate it!!

Negative responses? Around here? :look:

Great weight loss already, proves how good you are at this. I look forward to watching your progress.

Oh, so your avatar is your wedding dress label? Nice.

Yep Leannaja, that's the label of my dress! Everytime I see it, it stirs up something inside and keeps me on track, as silly as it sounds :)

I thought I'd get a few negative responses as I'm aiming to lose slightly more than 1kg per week! But everyone is too kind, it's great!

A wedding is an ideal goal and kick starts the motivation, so great work on taking the first step. It's after the wedding that is the harder part.

With 8 months to go you have a good amount of time, just take into account the closer to goal the slower the loss. So maybe have goals for each month, or 4 week period. I'd also suggest to take a photo of yourself now (front, back, side) and do this each month or 6 weeks - it's another great motivator plus fascinating to see the changes. Dito for measurements.

Maybe have 1 piece of clothing that is one size down from your current weight. Aim to fit into that in the first instance. The dress goal is quite far away.

The downside with 8 months to go is that it is a long time to have focus so definitely build in "free meals" to keep you sane.

Some other tips include:
- Remember that food accounts for 80% of weight loss (exercise 20%)
- consistency counts
- track everything (it's so easy to think 80g looks like 50g)
- ensure you're eating enough
- do the maths (or let ck do it for you)
- drink lots of water
- don't worry about negative comments, they're just jealous of your drive (and future success)
- surround yourself with positive energy (such as ck)
- fail to plan, plan to fail
- check out craig harpers website for no nonsense motivation

One of the quotes I like is:
Most people sacrifice what they want most for what they want now.

There are also wedding weight loss forums on here too, I think under member challenges.

I won't wish you luck, as it come's down to commitment and hard work. You can do it!

Jane
