Friend showed me a similar chart a few years ago. Quick google search found this:

http://laborwaste.com.au/files/2011/03/NetDebt.jpg
(higher = more debt/worse, lower = less debt/better)

While it looks like an anti-labor site, it's still quite amazing the correlation between different govts and increasing/decreasing debt.

Couldn't find any with more recent figures though, so last year or so is estimated.

Edit:

Found the following updated numbers on budget website for the end of the chart:

2009-10 - $42b
2010-11 - $84b
2011-12 - $132b (est)
2012-13 - $133b (est)
2013-14 - $135b (proj)
2014-15 - $134b (proj)

I have a politics degree. God knows why.

I'm despondent as all hell, i just want to be able to legally marry my same sex partner in australia, instead we leave in less than six months to go to New York to marry in a country that will legally recognise my marriage.

Cousins can marry. Criminals can marry but i can't marry my female partner.

Well if Ranger becomes PM maybe she can introduce the same sex marriage bill for you?

Unemployment is on the rise and we have massive debt, I can't see that Julia is doing much.
The effects of the carbon tax haven't been felt yet and it is a crock anyway as there is no definitive correlation between the tax and a reduction in carbon, it is just a way for the govt to try and make more money.

People have short memories when it comes to who backstabs whom.

Malcolm Turnbull was the Libs Leader before Abbott ousted him.

It's a shame people waste time on the schoolyard tactics rather than the development of policies and legislation to support it.

What exactly will this Carbon Tax do other then adding another tax!

I thought it was Rudd who saved our economy not Gillard? I love how people bag him out yet they were all happy to take the 900 he gave to everyone to try keep our economy afloat.

Leta face it Gillard slept her way to the PM role or have we all forgotten her affairs with other parliment members and bench sitters?

Still want Jade to enlarge on her allegation that JG "slept her way" to the top - what the? Perhaps she means Julia has been "screwed" - in a metaphorical way of course :teeth1: - by her own party/staff and in particular a certain KR. Not to mention the vultures in the media.

It can't be an easy job, running the country. :nono5:

Go Speaker!

You all have google, do your research! and No i dont mean she got screwed.

COTTESLOEGIRL - the stats on that shows its up from this time last year. Also where are the stats coming from? do they include people who arent on centrelink etc? with the amount of companies going belly up or all the redundancies the goverment has just handed out to corporate workers, I would say it will be on the increase not decrease soon.

http://www.treasury.act.gov.au/snapshot/LABOUR.pdf - lets hope the stats keep on going like this

The opinion piece quoted says much more about the new Speaker of the House of Representative than it does about Gillard. I'm afraid I'm missing the point - research on what?

When I walked into the cafe at work today and they had a clip from question time. Opposition ask a question, Gillard insults them, they rephrase and ask again, Gillard insults them, they rephrase yet again and Gillard insults them.'

I was only in there for a minute and a half heating up my chicken and I was thinking ****ing answer the ****ing question ffs.

Time to overthrow the current kiddies in government and put adults in charge I think.

Actually she's working with the legacy that the liberals built. Know this I'm not a lib but I can acknowledge where the economic foundation was built. It seems traditional - libs do all the austere measures, save the bucks and then they get voted out and the spend a lot labourites move in. Spending goes mad, debt goes up, Blah, blah, blah....

I'm not going to spend any more time on this thread but I'll just say that there is so much more to government and running the country than the one hour a day of question time which, I agree, is a joke.

@CANCER

It's from the ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics)

JANUARY KEY POINTS

TREND ESTIMATES (MONTHLY CHANGE)
■Employment increased to 11,448,500.
■Unemployment decreased to 623,700.

■Unemployment rate steady at 5.2%.
■Participation rate at 65.3%.
■Aggregate monthly hours worked decreased to 1,607.0 million hours

Figures can say whatever you want. I'm just working on the figures from last month. You can pick a month from wherever you want I suppose abd get your figures to support our arguements. it's how you read stats and what and where you draw from.

It's politics and people will always disagree.

Modern politics does depress me a little.

However, I wanted to say this. I have more respect for Penny Wong as a communicator than Julia. I base this on how they respond to questions either in question time, debates or in press conferences etc. When interrupted or challenged, Penny stops, waits for the people shouting to shut up, then calmly addresses their question and continues. Julia on the other hand, responds to questions or objections by talking over them, just talking louder, and repeating her points rather than actually addressing the question.

I don't know a lot about politics, but I am not particularly inspired by the leaders of either party.
